Nathan joined the Royal Air Force in 1992 as a Physical Training Instructor and spent 12 years delivering both gymnasium and outdoor education training to Airmen and Officers. After taking a commission in 2004 he worked primarily in outdoor education centres, either leading and developing the personnel delivering the training or delivering training first hand, often in consequential environments. With several UK based and overseas experiences to draw upon, for example, leading the HR support for a major UK Operation based in Kosovo and numerous large expeditions, he has developed the ability to plan and lead in a wide variety of situations. Recognising a knowledge gap he undertook a BA (Hons) degree in Outdoor Leadership 2010-2011, subsequently followed up with a PG Dip (UK Coaching Certificate Level 4) in Elite Performance. This qualification, coupled with experience from developing coaches in the Royal Air Force, has opened up opportunities with British Sailing and British Canoeing where he trains and develops coaches working within the performance pathway. A key strength is the ability to take academic theory and synthesise it into relevant training that creates a performance gain.
